"The apparition of the blue.


Once upon a time, the blue didn't exist. Ancient languages, such as Japanese, Greek, and Hebrew, didn't present a word to define this color.  Historians elucidate us that such absence comes from the fact of blue rare presence in nature, contrary to other colors as black, white, red. Consequently, the blue went unnoticed. Others say that this linguistic distraction points that those societies weren't enough developed. Facing that erasure, the color survived and became a symbol, a temporality.

Blue was present in ancient Egypt or in the Tupi-Guaraní civilization in South America, which can be considered as a marker of their progress, modernity and technology. Master, produce, process or just see a color would be the reason for such a conclusion. 

In many languages where the color blue was previously imperceptible, the word created to define it emerged from the color black. Black dance exists. Moreover, it is the only dance category related to a color. 

What gestures would emerge if that same etymological procedure was applied to choreographic construction? A blue dance that emerges from dances considered black; sacred, traditional and popular forms, contemporary manifestations, connected to Black populations, in Africa and Diasporas.  

NOIRBLUE opens space to fiction and a atlantic navigation of peripheral bodies. This exercise interrogates presence, absence, speeches and time to produce an extemporary dance aligned to two specific colors: The Blackness of the skin and the ultramarine blue pigment. "
